The Poem - Digital War

Mighty gladiators prepare
      for battle early in the night,
Gird their loins, remove
      all jewelry, and ready for the fight.
The tension builds, the
      crowd shifts, a silence fills the air.
Prayers are said and knuckles
      cracked by warriors brave and fair.
The champs, two heroes
      wrestling for glory and for fame,
With strong thumb muscles
      forged by playing many a video game.
Thumbs up, combatants in
      their final match of a world tour,
Yell their battle cry in
      unison: "I declare a thumb war!"
The two thumbs circle slowly,
      each powerful weapon its opposite riddling,
The two thumbs round each other,
      slowly then quickly twiddling.
One hero when a clumsy
      lad was told he was "all thumbs."
This insult steeled his will,
      "all thumbs" his life becomes.
The other warrior a botanist,
      on off-days makes plants bloom,
So he is hailed as "The Green Thumb"
      – that's his nom de thumb.
The champs hear the raucous
      horde swelling to a roar,
And free hands wipe sweat
      from the brow as they still come back for more.
As the match continues,
      two champions the battle wage,
And in front of this packed crowd,
      they've entered the Digital Age.
